I had a great workout this afternoon. I went to the gym and did not expect to run for that long especially in the first mile because my calves were so tight.


I ended up running 7 miles. This is the farthest I have ever run in my life.

Mile 1: moderate pace @ 4.7

Mile 2: moderate pace @ 4.9

Mile 3: Speed Work changed every 30 seconds

60 sec 6.0

30 sec 5.8

30 sec 5.6

Then I went back up by 2’s and went up to 6.2 and then back down by 2’s. Did this for a mile.

Mile 4: Moderate pace @ 5.0

Mile 5: Same speed work as above

Mile 6: Moderate pace @ 5.5

Mile 7: Recovery mile

3 miles in 36:00

5 miles in 58:30

6 th mile in 11:56

7 th mile in 13:43

All seven miles were in 1:23:00

Since I started off running in the gym on the treadmill this is what I have been used to. I have heard people call it the DREAD-mill and I do not understand why. I can not wait for it to get nicer out so I can see what I like better. I think it is great because I can place my towel, water bottle, and shuffle into the holders. Also, the treadmills at my gym have your own personal TV’s and it is really nice to get lost in a show or movie.

I like the treadmill because I can see my speed, miles and time right in front of me. I can up my incline if I want and it really pushes me harder then I think I would on my own outside.

My biggest problem is that I have shorter hair and it just about fits into a ponytail. During my sprints I had sweat dripping all over and down into my eyes. Do any of you wear headbands or bandannas? Please let me know what works best for you.

What do you think about the treadmill??? Do you consider it a Dread-mill???

Turkey Chili

I made Turkey chili for the first time. I have never eaten chili or made it so I thought I would give it a try.

The picture does not look the best, but it was very yummy.

Ingredients:

Lean Ground Turkey

19 oz. Progresso Red Kidney Beans

Onion

Garlic

San Marzano Diced Tomatoes

1/3 jar of spaghetti sauce

sweet lean Italian Turkey Sausage (optional)

Seasonings:

Basil, Oregano, Onion powder, garlic powder, chili powder, and red pepper flakes. I did not measure these I just sprinkled them in and went by taste.

Directions:

  1. I browned the turkey in a pan and drained the fat. Then place on a plate until later.

  2. Then I diced an onion and cooked it in the same pan and then added in the garlic.

  3. Add in the diced tomatoes

  4. Drain and Rinse the beans and add to the pan.

  5. Add the meat back into the pan

  6. Add in the seasonings

I cooked my sausage in a separate pan because my husband does not like sausage and just added into my bowl just before eating. Also, I added a lot of spice to mine because I heard that adding spice revs up your metabolism. I will do whatever it takes.

Losing feels GREAT

OK! I have been working out for almost 4 weeks (4 week mark on Saturday) and I have been tempted to jump on the scale at take measurements a little early. I am so happy to be loosing weight and inches.

I have lost 8 pounds so far, 3.5 inches off my waist, 2.5 inches off my hips, and 2 inches off my thigh.

Also, today I ran 5k (3.1 miles) in my lowest time since working out. I ran without stopping in 41 minutes at a speed on the treadmill at 4.5 and last 1/2 a mile at 5.0. It felt great to be able to run the whole thing without stopping once.

It feels great when hard work pays off and I can’t wait for it to pay off some more in inches and pounds!!! 🙂

Happy Valentines Day and Anniversary

I know I am a day late, but still wanted to wish everyone a Happy Valentines Day! Yesterday was a special day for my husband and I. Last year on Valentines day we got married so it was our one year anniversary.

Sam and I relaxed, worked out together and then went out to dinner with the family. We went to the Borgota in Atlantic City and we ate at a restaurant called Sea Blue. I had salad and the TASMANIAN SALMON from New Zealand cooked on the wood burning grill and some roasted mushrooms. For dessert Sam and I both had the ROOT BEER FLOAT (except I had coke instead) with warm chocolate chip cookies.

Dinner was so good, but I had the worst night sleep. Since I have not had soda in 3 weeks and having it that late at night the caffeine kept me awake all night.

Workout and New Sneakers

Where do I begin??? First I had an amazing workout today with Dion (personal trainer). Let me begin with a recap of that workout.

This workout is called Academy Fitness we did four circuits of:

Squats wide – 90 seconds

Push-ups on knees – 30 seconds

Sit-ups – 30 seconds

Tricep dips – 30 seconds

Pull-ups modified – 30 seconds

Everything is the same except the Sprints change each time

It was such a great workout. We move threw each of the workouts without breaks and then once we finish each circuit with the sprints then we have about a minute break.

After I came home Sam and I went out to Lowes to pick up some nuts and bolts for a pull up bar that we just got. We put it together and then broke it so Sam wanted some stronger bolts.

Then we went to Sports Authority and I got a pair of shoes. I tried on many different brands and pairs of shoes and fell in love with 2 and could not decide which one to get so I got them both. Happy Valentines and Anniversary to me!! 🙂 I will definitely let you know how they feel after I actually work out in them. It is so hard to buy shoes without being able to run around in them. I would have ran around the store a little bit if the one salesmen actually left me alone. Here are my new shoes…

Another great find was a magazine that I picked up at the grocery store the other day was Oxygen magazine. It is really awesome and I love all the real women in the magazine. It is really inspiring to see that real women lost weight and look great.

Black Bean Brownies

Yesterday I was craving chocolate and what better way to eat some chocolate is to also eat brownies. Well I heard about this recipe a while ago on Dr. Oz and I thought I would give it a try. YUMMY!!!

On the Dr. Oz website you will find it as Kim’s Midnight Brownie Recipe. Who is Kim? Kim Benson has her own cool website where she tells how she lost 212 lbs. She has some recipes and a store with really cool stuff. The recipe of these brownies on her website is different from the Dr. Oz one.

Brownies

Ingredients

1, 15 oz can black beans, drained and rinsed

½ cup agave syrup

½ cup whole wheat flour

1/2 tsp baking soda

½ cup egg whites

¼ cup unsweetened cocoa

2 tsp vanilla (I didn’t have any and skipped this)

1 tsp baking powder

6 tbsp mini semisweet chocolate chips

Directions

In a food processor, mix all brownie ingredients (except chips) together. Chop on high, until smooth. Clean off sides and blend for another 20 seconds. Add the chips in and stir well. Spread into the 8×8 baking dish. Preheat oven to 350º. Cook for 20 minutes, until toothpick comes out clean. Cool for about 1 hour in dish at room temperature.

Frosting

Ingredients

6 oz fat-free cream cheese

¼ cup agave syrup

2 tbsp vanilla extract (didn’t  have any so I skipped this)

2 tbsp semisweet mini chocolate chips, melted.

Directions

With a whisk attachment on an electric beater and blend all ingredients until light and fluffy. Spread evenly over the top of the cooled brownies. In a microwave safe bowl, melt the 2 tbsp of chips. Using a spoon, swirl the chocolate on top. Allow it to set in the refrigerator for 20 minutes. Serve and enjoy. Don’t forget to have seconds!

I made this yesterday and the are already half gone. The husband loves them and I would not tell him what is in it until he finished his first piece. It did not scare him away and he came back for more. Trust me they are soooo GOOD and healthy!
